Traveling the world is an exciting experience that everyone should do at least once in their life. The world is a beautiful place and there are so many different cultures and places to see traveling land-based or aboard European vegan cruises that it is almost impossible not to fall in love with it. There are many reasons why people choose to travel, some travel for work, others for pleasure and some even travel just because they feel like it. It doesn't matter what your reason is, you should never let anything stop you from getting out there and seeing what this amazing world we live in has to offer.
The purpose of this list is to give you the essentials that you need for your travel, without having to worry about if there are vegan options available in the area that you are visiting. The items in this list are items that most travelers personally recommend and think are important for being vegan on the road. This list is not exhaustive, but it does contain all of the things that you would consider as a basic vegan travel packing list. Keep in mind, this is just a guide for you to create your own vegan travel packing list. Everyone's needs will differ depending on where you are going and how long you will be gone.
Shoes
This is something everyone should pack, but especially vegans as we don't want to wear leather/pleather/man-made materials that hurt animals for our own comfort. Shoes are important when visiting a country where the terrain or climate is different from your own (think high altitude, lots of snow, cities with lots of trash, etc.) Also viver & rain boots are recommended, having one pair of river shoes or sandals and one pair of rain boots are advisable. Rain boots are great for wet trails or areas where there may be snow/ice on the ground during spring/fall or winter. Rain boots are also great for camp footwear when it's wet outside.
Wind & Waterproof Outerwear
Including jackets, pants, skirts, gloves. Windproof pants are a must for any cold weather trip. They will protect your legs from the wind and precipitation when walking/hiking/snowshoeing/skiing. Convertible pants are preferable with zippered legs as it allows you to convert them into shorts if needed.
Travel Towel
This is a 'must have' travel item necessary for all travelers. A travel towel is different from a regular bath towel because it dries quickly and folds up small enough to fit in your backpack.
Snacks to Take With You Each Day
You don't want to arrive at your destination only to find out that all of the stores are closed or you had forgotten there would be nothing available at the hotel where you will be staying.
If there's a good chance that dinner will be out of your hands (you're going with a group for example), then it may be worth it to pack some snacks just in case the restaurant doesn't have many options or if your stomach needs something before bedtime. Especially if the eatery offers foods that are not in-line with your diet. So always keep in mind to bring your snack to be ready in whatever journey you will have on your trip.
Vegan Travel Accessories
A good quality water bottle with a sturdy strap is an essential part of any travel kit. Some airports have filtered water fountains which don't require you to purchase bottled water. Plus, if you get thirsty while walking around your destination city, you'll always have something to drink on hand.
If there are restaurants that serve food that is suitable for vegans (such as salad bars or Asian noodle joints), it's useful to carry some small bills in case they don't take cards.
The vegan travel packing list is going to be a very different list than the non-vegan, or even vegetarian lists. This is because vegans and vegetarians have to think about what they are going to eat for their meals. A person that eats meat does not have to worry about this as much, but the vegan traveler will have to make sure that they bring food with them.
When you are planning your trip, there are some things that you should take into consideration before you get started on your packing list. The first thing that you should think about is how long the trip is going to be and where you are going. For instance if you’re planning your vegan holidays longer than usual, then you might want to consider bringing things that can sustain your needs throughout the trip.
