Jackfruit for Meat

Jackfruit is one of the most versatile ingredients that you can take advantage of. Whether it’s for dishes that focus on crab meat, fish meat, pork, or poultry, there are endless possibilities with jackfruit. Widely popular and available in Asia, it’s a surprisingly accessible ingredient that’s worth stocking up on.

Flax Meal for Egg

If you’re making a dish that requires eggs and don’t have aqua faba on hand, using a mixture of hot water and flax meal is a great option. If you don’t have flax meal available, chia seeds also work. Whichever one you decide to use, you’re guaranteed to have an extra boost of nutrition!

Bananas as Binders

If you’re making baked goods and find you’re out of binding agents like flax, bananas are an easy fix that’s also quite accessible. Bananas’ naturally fibrous texture makes them a wonderful binding ingredient, and best of all, it lessens the amount of sugar you have to use thanks to its natural sweetness and creaminess.

Applesauce as Binders

If you’re saving your bananas for something else, then applesauce, a common pantry snack staple, is also a fantastic way to add structure to your baked goods. Same as bananas, they have their own sweetness that lessens your need to add any additional sugar into the batter.

Coconut Oil for Plant-based Butters

Cashew butter is a common choice for vegans. But when that’s not available, know that coconut oil makes an easy substitute without significantly altering flavor and texture. Coconut oil is particularly great in baked goods like brownies and other bar-type desserts.
