Keeping Yourself Healthy While Staying Indoors: Vegan Edition

While staying indoors all the time isn’t the healthiest thing to do, it’s the most effective way to prevent exposure with the current pandemic. That’s why many outdoorsy events like weddings, raves and vegan cruises are being put on hold.

For the less social vegans, this might not be much of a problem, especially if you’ve got plenty of entertainment at home (Hello Netflix, hello Xbox or Switch, hello books and graphic novels.) However, that doesn’t mean that you should scrimp on maintaining your health. Gyms may be closed and you can’t jog around the neighborhood like you used to, but you can still keep yourself healthy and vegan while indoors. Here’s how.

Plan Out Your Meals

If you’re the sort of vegan who plays a lot of life simulation games (Sims, Animal Crossing, etc.), you’ll understand the value of resource management. Making a meal plan in more ideal times would seem peculiar, but we’re not in ideal times. Making a meal plan can help you prepare your vegan meals in a way that ensures your supplies last as long as they can in-between trips to the supermarket. The less time you spend outside, the better.

Again, Don’t Scrimp on Exercise

Your home is not a gym but it can be, you just have to improvise. If you didn’t stock up on gym equipment before the lockdowns, then you can use other heavy objects like books for lifting. If your exercise regimen doesn’t use gym equipment, then you’re in luck, since you can just exercise as you normally do. Sit-ups, push-ups, cardio—all of these things and more can be done in the comfort of your own home. Just think of how healthy your body will be once it’s safe to go on vegan travels again.

Talk to People

Your mental health is important too. Talk to your friends online. Get in touch with relatives. If you’re feeling down and distressed, don’t let yourself suffer in isolation. Social distancing is only physical, you don’t have to cut yourself off from the people you love because you can’t meet them face to face. You can get through this pandemic, and you don’t have to do it alone.
